new Randall Fire Station #2. The following is photographic documentation of the
progress.
The images shown below are thumbnails. Double "clicking" on the
image will explode them to full size.

Week
one, January 10, 2004 started with a Ground breaking ceremony on Saturday, January 17th. Town
Chairperson Lauren Fox dedicates the new station to the founding members of
the Randall Fire Department. They are (L-R) Town Chair Lauren Fox, founding
members Bruce Schaal, Rick Sarbacker and Noel Karow. Local Officials were well represented.
(L-R) State Representative Samantha Kerkman, County Board members Dennis
Elverman and Don Smitz. Monday morning the excavation started. Powers Lake
Construction, Inc begins site work establishing grades and defining the
parking lots and building location

Week Two, January 19, 2004 started with the temperature of Zero. Not much improvement the rest of
the week. A little snow was added to the mix too. None the less, the
General Contractor, Bane-Nelson placed their construction site trailer and
concrete forms. Powers Lake Construction managed two days of additional site preparation.
Other than that, the week was pretty much a wash.

Week Three, January 26, 2004, still
in the deep freeze this week. The pad the for the actual building is cleared
and prepped for foundation and basement digging next week. More site grading
is done. The frost in the ground is a minor challenge for the Powers Lake
Construction boys, but they manage. The retention pond in the Northwest
corner starts to take shape.
Week Four, February 2,
2004 Snow and cold made this week a complete
blow-out. Nothing happened.

Week Five, February 9, 2004 The
hole for the basement is dug and the footing for the basement walls are formed
and poured. The final rough grade is all so completed on the retention pond.
Much more productive week then last.

Week Six, February 16,
2004 The basement walls are framed and
poured. The crew from Bane Nelson wait on concrete which is conveyored from
the trucks to a pump and then delivered to the crew through a chute. Later in
the week the forms are striped
Week Seven, February 23,
2004 This week begins with excavation for the
footing of the Apparatus Bay walls. Framing up the footing forms is next
followed by the footings being poured. Lots of re-bar will tie the foundation
walls to the footing. The basement exterior walls are sealed with tar. Forming
of the foundation walls begin.
Week Eight, March 1,
2004 The basement foundation is back
filled with pea gravel and the basement is prepared for the floor to be
poured. Sump pits and drain line are laid. Forming and pouring of the
foundation walls continue. Late in the week the clay pile for the pond is
worked.
Week Nine, March 8, 2004
Some of the forms are striped from last weeks
poured walls. The apparatus bay is backfilled and the basement floor is
poured. More foundation walls are framed and poured.
Week 10, March 15, 2004
Foundation work continues. Insulation board is applied to the foundation
walls. Early Saturday morning the pre-cast floor above the basement was
installed.
Week 11, March 22, 2004

apparatus bay begins. The electrical and plumbing contractors begin running
stubs through the concrete floor and foundation walls.
Week 12, March 29, 2004
The block wall continue to go up on the apparatus bay. The electrical and
plumbing contractors continue running stubs through the concrete floor and
foundation walls. In the last image, the stub for the pond pump can be seen.

2004 The block wall are done on the
apparatus bay, the electrical and plumbing stubs done and the pond is ready
for the liner to be installed. A lot of loose ends are tied up.
Week 14, April 12,
2004 Stubs for the plumbing and electric
are complete and readied for final backfill and grade. The floor slabs will be
poured next week. The drainage for the apparatus bay is beginning to be put in
placed.
Week 15, April 19, 2004 The
apparatus bay trench drains are beginning to be installed. The concrete slab
floors are also poured and finished.
Week 16, April 26, 2004
The trench drains are formed up and connected to the catch basins. The floor
for the compressor room is poured as well as the bollards at the bay doors. Wooden
trusses are delivered for installation next week and the
apparatus bay floors in readied for the concrete slab to be poured.

Week 17 & 18 May 3,
May 14, 2004 The apparatus bay slab is
finished. The trusses delivered last week are installed. The roof decking is
also being placed in anticipation of the roofers soon. After some heavy rains,
the pond is doing what it should, hold water.
Week 19 & 20 May
17, May 21, 2004 A lot of rain and not
much going on construction wise these two weeks. The pond continued to
accumulate more water. The masons will be here soon, so their material is
delivered. The culvert for the CTH F entrance is delivered too. Some grading
and compaction is done around the pond in preparation for the liner. The
masons start late in the week.
Week 21 June 1, 2004 The
weather co-operated this week and a lot got done. The pond needed to be
drained to install the liner. A pump was installed at the bottom of the pond
with the whole thing held in place with a backhoe. The steel studs FINALLY
arrive and get to priority. A trench is cut around the pond which will be
filled in over the pond liner holding it in place. The CTH F culvert is
installed, the masons continue to make excellent progress, and the roofers
start to install the insulated panels over the OSB decking already in place.
The finish grade is also done to the CTH F entrance.
Week 22 & 23 June

enough to install the poly liner. The liner is installed in sheets which are
then seamed together with a special tape. The trusses over the administrative
wing are installed. The apparatus bay roofing continues and the electrician
starts working on the administrative wing. The corner window in the Chief's
Office gives a great view to the west and north.
Week 24 June 21-25,
2004 The Department did some training at
the site this week. Part of the training was establishing a tanker shuttle for
water supply. We used this as an opportunity to get some water in the pond.
The roofers continue to do their thing along with the electricians. The Kohler
generator is delivered for installation too. You can start to get a good feel
for the space inside as more and more gets done.
Week 26 July 5-9, 2004 Roofing
continues and the shell of the administrative end starts to take shape. The
outside wall sheathing goes on, HVAC goes to work on the bay heating and has
material delivered for the duct work, electrical work continues with bay
lighting and installation of wall boxes. Drywall is also delivered so work on
the ceiling can begin next week.
Week 27 July 12-16, 2004
The pond gradually fills up, the masons
return to work on the administrative wing, dry wall is installed on the
ceilings so the interior walls can be constructed and the air exchanger is
installed in the bay area.
Week 28 July 19-23, 2004
Electrical entrance is installed, steel stud
walls go up
Week 29 July 26-30, 2004
Concrete flat work gets going, the dry wall
supplies are delivered as well as the insulation.
Weeks 30 thru 39 August
1 to October 4, 2004 Not much to
photograph inside. The dry wall was taped and mudded, the bay doors were installed,
electrical boxed wired and the inside was painted. The well and septic was
installed too. After the base for the black-top was graded, top soil spread
and seeded by Randall FD. Parking lot is paved. A few finishing details and we
are ready to move in.
